【摘要】:1Thispracticeoutlinesirradiatorinstallationqualifica-tion,operationalqualification,performancequalification,androutineproductprocessingdosimetricprocedurestobefol-lowedintheirradiationofbloodandbloodcomponentsbytheblood-bankingcommunity.Iffollowed,theseprocedureswillhelptoensurethattheproductsprocessedwithionizingradiationfromgamma,X-rays(bremsstrahlung),orelectronsourcesreceiveabsorbeddoseswithinapredeterminedrange.2Thispracticecoversdosimetryfortheirradiationofbloodforthesetypesofirradiators:self-containedirradiators(free-standingirradiators)utilizingCs,CoorX-rays(bremsstrahlung),teletherapyunits,andelectronaccelerators.Theabsorbeddoserangeforbloodirradiationistypically15Gyto50Gy.Insomejurisdictions,theabsorbeddoserangeforbloodirradiationis25Gyto50Gy.3Theenergyrangeistypicallyfromapproximately40keVto5MeVforphotons,andupto10MeVforelectrons.4Thispracticealsocoverstheuseofradiation-sensitiveindicatorsforthevisualandqualitativeindicationthattheproducthasbeenirradiated.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappro-priatesafetyandhealthpracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityorregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
